My Top 17 Songs of 2017

2017 was a year of new music and new artists, but here is a list of my 17 favorite songs that were released in 2017 before 2018 hits! Do we share some of the same favorites? Hopefully this helps you discover some new music if you are currently trying to listen to something new! I have also attached a link to each song, so you do not have to spend time trying to find it.

  1. 1-800-273-8255 – Logic feat. Alessia Cara & Khalid (Everybody) – HIP-HOP/RAP

No words necessary for this song. I want to start crying every time this song plays. There is a certain power that Logic was able to possess with this song, bringing many to call the number of the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. With this, many began to remember the number, and address suicide and ways to prevent suicide. This song sends the message to anyone listening, that suicide is never the answer.

  1. 2 Cigarettes – Jack & Jack (GONE) – POP

The emotions. The hurt. I just want to tell both Jacks that everything will be alright. This is one of the songs I play when I feel hurt, or want to feel sad. Weird to say, I know. This song is all about change and how to cope. Sometimes, we will do things that we do not intend to, but it is used as a coping mechanism. Whether this song is used as a sign for help, this song was released around the same time as the whole Jack Gilinsky and Madison Beer drama. To get over someone, you sometimes lose yourself, and even if you try to let go, sometimes you want to just stay where you are – miserable. This is a great breakup song and how to cope in my opinion.

  1. beauty/bends: – Handsome Ghost (beauty/bends:) – ALTERNATIVE/INDIE

I do not think that an explanation is necessary. It is all about starting over. Forgiveness. Making up for our mistakes in life. There is something we want to make up for in life, whether making amends in a relationship, a friendship, anything. Maybe you said something you did not mean, and you want to take it back. There is however, a par of us where we are hiding from others that we are not ready to reveal to the world. And that can be challenging. We want to get things right, but unfortunately, not everyone is willing to give things another try. So, we just have to move on.

  1. Break My Heart – Angel Cintron feat. ELI (Break My Heart) – POP

Heartbreak is written all over this song. The feels. I can easily start crying. It is all about starting over with the possibility of getting your heart broken again. Unfortunately, hearts will be broken, mainly because people know how to break people. We end up getting ourselves caught up in a pattern. Fall for someone. Play games. Get heartbroken in the end. But, love is all about testing the waters and finding the one, right? “Oh, why do I fall for these guys?” This lyric heavily resonates with me.  Girls, please. Let’s promise not to fall for those f***boys anymore. That’s just an easy way for us to get hurt again.

  1. do re mi – blackbear feat. Gucci Mane (Digital Druglord) – R&B/SOUL

An overplayed song, I know. Before I start getting dissed for featuring this song, I want to state. I have been a fan of blackbear for years. This was the song that I heavily played on repeat when experiencing a breakup, and yes, I was crying ugly while screaming the lyrics. In all honesty, I prefer the version without Gucci Mane, but that is just my opinion. I think this song can hit anyone. We all have that one person that we are basically done with, and we want to simply diss them out in a song. This can be seen like a typical Taylor Swift song, trash-talking someone who meant a lot in your life, but hey, whatever. I like it. Toxic relationships are something that we should not have to experience, but they end up happening anyways. I am proud of bear releasing this song, and the rest of the songs on the album.

  1. Don’t Kill My Vibe – Sigrid (Don’t Kill My Vibe) – POP

This song. Ugh. Things I want to say found in one song. I am tired of people trying to kill my vibe. Of people getting in my way. Of people thinking that they are of an importance to me, trying to catch my attention. Like, no. Stop. I do not need you in my life, to be clearly honest. Sigrid mentions that she is young, and that is how many of us feel. Invincible. I love how this song gives me a power over others. I am able to control how I act around others, while still trying to get to the said accomplishment that I am trying to achieve. Essentially, don’t kill my vibe.

  1. Fly – Egzod feat. Caiti Pattron (Fly) – CHILLOUT

I do not even know how to describe this song. I simply want to fly. Although this is a generic song that SuicideSheeep would feature on their Youtube (that’s where I discover most of my music), this one really spoke out to me in many ways. “Floating up to the surface… this has to be my last breath… I knew this was not the end, this was just the beginning.” Lyrics that open up the song and resonate with me. There is a lot of times that we want to simply fall, but we have to, in the end, fly. Fly to what we are striving for. What we are fighting for. Caiti’s vocals are amazing and uplifting. We want to be the bird that we were meant to be, and for that, we cannot give up on our dreams. We cannot have others restrict us from our callings. It is okay to stray from your goals at times, but just make sure that you eventually return to them.

  1. Focus – Life of Dillon feat. L Marshall (Life of Dillon) – POP

I might lose my way, but I won’t lose myself. This song is great for anyone who is experiencing a rough patch in their lives. There were many times in 2017 where I just wanted to give up. I ended up having a miserable year, but this song helped me get through my rough patches. Many occasions I hated myself and the things I done, but Life of Dillon showed me that with these obstacles in life just make us a stronger person. “We all lose some, we all win some,” and that is life. There is a part that says that we should not blame someone else for what we are feeling or experiencing, and that resonates with me. This year, I have done a better job of taking initiative and working for what I would like to get out of my life.

  1. Gang Up – Young Thug, 2 Chainz, Wiz Khalifa, & PnB Rock (The Fate of the Furious: The Album) – HIP-HOP/RAP

Everything in this song. I get so happy. I’m literally bopping my head whenever I hear this song, carrying a ridiculous smile on my face. This is one of my go-to happy songs even if it might not seem like something I would really listen to. I think it’s mainly because of the chorus that is catchy, accompanied with a simple instrumental in the background. The collaboration of artists adds flavor to the song, and when they all come in sync around three minutes. The perfect harmony.

  1. Lot to Learn – Luke Christopher (TMRWFRVR) – HIP-HOP/RAP

Here comes my inner fangirl. I am sort of biased over Luke because I saw him twice this year! Luke’s voice is like an angel, and the questions he poses in the beginning. I want to scream YES to all of them! I feel like this song is relatable to everyone, even if we might have a different story than Luke’s. We all start off somewhere and know that even with rough patches and putting on a mask, we are still trying to find ourselves. We need someone to be there for us. There is a lot to learn in life. We might make our mistakes, but we will learn from them. Luke’s lyrics are so inspirational. People might not see what we are going through. People might not understand what we are going through. But music can in a way, save us. Or that’s what this song has done for me. Whenever I saw Luke perform this, you bet I was going through a surge of emotions. He saved my life, and I am grateful for that.

  1. Meet Me In the Hallway – Harry Styles (Harry Styles) – ROCK/POP

If you have not yet heard Harry Styles as Harry Styles, where have you been the past half year or so? I am incredibly proud of Harry and his music growth after the One Direction days. This song is slow and calming, but you can tell there is some hurt in Harry’s lyrics. This was the first song that I heard off of the Harry Styles album, and by default, it is my favorite.

  1. New Rules – Dua Lipa (Dua Lipa) – POP

Rules that everyone should follow. There is a sense of female empowerment in this song. Girl, do not tell the man what you should do. If it does not feel right to you, get out before you catch feels. This reminds me Marina and the Diamond’s “How to Be a Heartbreaker” from years ago, don’t you think?

  1. Our City – TRXD feat. Emilie Adams (Our City) – POP

This song is simply just beautiful! Whenever I hear this song, I think that I am flying through Neverland with someone who means dear to me. There is a feel of comfort and familiarity in the lyrics, telling me that everything will be okay in the end. It is happy and has a dance vibe to it, allowing myself to be free with the lyrics and instrumentals provided. Other parts, I feel like I can be seen dancing in the rain. Essentially, everything is happy and positive vibes are spread everywhere. I will definitely recommend this song to anyone who is looking for something happy and uplifting.

  1. Reciprocate – Rationale (Vessels) – POP

Okay, the vocals. BEAUTIFUL. I can easily start crying. The song is full of such emotions that I want to either cry, or dance in the corner. The story that I can get out of this song is vivid, but visual. I think everyone can relate to this song, because there is always going to be that one person who simply is not able to reciprocate your love. And that’s the burden of life, and love, in a way. We will always think of, or know, someone who will not see you in the same way that you see them. And that is life. It is sort of like unrequited love, where you will not get what you want out of the person in the end. There is a line that says “I have been holding on for you and me,” and that is essentially what I have been feeling through every relationship/friendship that I have been through. Either one person would care too much, or too less. And that is the harsh part of life.

  1. Raincoat – Timeflies feat. SHY Martin (Too Much) – POP

This song is too adoorrraaabbbbllleeeeeeee. “I feel it in my body when you’re around.” I just want to start dancing around to this song. I try to ignore the negativity in the lyrics and want to just be happy. We all have somebody bringing us down, but it is up to us to determine whether we are going to let that affect us or not. After listening to Timeflies for many years, this is one of my favorite songs by them of all time.

  1. Say Less – Dillon Francis feat. G-Eazy (Say Less) – DANCE/ELECTRONIC

My bop of the summer! I am so happy that Gerald (G-Eazy) is collaborating and creating more music! I have also seen Dillon Francis live before, so I was excited to hear this. Dance vibes all the way. Crazy dancing all the way. I can imagine myself already dancing the whole song away. Not to mention that this song played multiple times during a two hour road trip. I am not a big fan of explicit songs, but I did not seem to mind with this one! I think it is just because you are too busy going hard to the song that you barely pay attention to the lyrics? Or that’s my position every time.

  1. Sirens – Myles Parrish feat. Lost Boy (Vomac) – POP

With all of the violence that has been happening recently, this song is all about love and needing us to change. We need to get rid of the bias that we have, and see each other as humans. We are all essentially all the same, and that is an important virtue to hold. This song got released a day before the Manchester shooting at Ariana Grande’s show, so you bet I was crying my eyes off while playing this song when I found out what happened overseas. There is so much that I can write about this song, so I might save my explanation for another blog post. Lost Boy’s chorus is beautiful, and I hope that it speaks out to others. We need a little more love, and a little less sirens.

And that’s a wrap 2017! I cannot wait to officially launch this new blog hopefully by the end of January.
